Kochnev is a student at Odessa Specialized Music School #12. The Foundation seeks to identify the world's most gifted emerging artists as early as possible in their careers wherever they may be to assist them in fulfilling their potential on the world stage.

Based on a rigorous audition process during which he was the top performer, Vladimir Kochnev was invited to participate in Apogee's first International Music Festival held in Odessa in September of 2006. There, he was selected by the festival jury as one of 14 Apogee Merit Scholars and one of 15 Performance Award laureates based on his two rounds of performances.
