Leonid T. Zhdanov

Leonid Timofeyevich Zhdanov has been an instructor, a professor and the head of the department of male technique as well as of partnering technique at the Bolshoi Ballet Academy for decades.
Professor Zhdanov himself graduated from the Bolshoi Ballet Academy in 1946 and in that year was inducted into the Bolshoi Theater, where he danced for more than twenty years, partnering such great ballerinas as Ulanova, Plisetskaya, Tikhomirnova and many others. He began his teaching career in 1959, and among his students have been such greats as Bessmertnova, Lavrovskiy, Gordeyev and Bogatyrev.
Among Professor Zhdanov's many lifetime honors, he has been named a Merited Worker of the Arts of the Soviet Union
In recognition of his lifetime of service assisting gifted performing artists to achieve their potential, the Foundation awarded him with its Achievement Award during the 2001/2002 academic year, and reconfirmed this award in the 2005/2006 academic year.
Professor Zhdanov also is a prolific ballet photographer, and has been named an Apogee Artist in Residence to continue his work in this field during the 2006/2007 academic year.
