
Evgeniya Farmanyants

Evgenia Karapetovna Farmanyants graduated from the Bolshoi Ballet Academy in 1938 in the class of the renowned instructor Gerdt. From 1938 to 1959, she performed as an artist of the Bolshoi Ballet. According to legend, Ms. Farmanyants was Stalin's favorite dancer and she was asked to perform for him repeatedly at his personal request. She has been on the faculty of the Bolshoi Ballet Academy since 1939, where she has been the head of the department of national, historical and modern dance for decades. She also is the recipient of the award "Deserving Artist of Russia" and "Deserving Actor in the Arts" from the federal government as well as the respected prize "Soul of Dance".
